<ProductName>C.G. Conn Soprano Sarrusophone ONLY ONE KNOWN? EXCELLENT!</ProductName>

Here is a C.G. Conn soprano sarrusophone. The sarrusophone was invented by the French company Gautrot in the 19th century as a double-reed instrument for outdoor band use. The most common member of the sarrusophone family is the contrabass which can substitute for contrabassoon in a pinch. The soprano instrument however is almost unheard of. Playing in the same register as the oboe, but pitched in Bb, these instruments have a unique timbre that could be described as a cross between an oboe and a saxophone.

This instrument is branded 'Made For C.G. Conn' and while Conn manufacturered several contrabass sarrusophones, this is the only known Conn-branded soprano sarrusophone. Now we have examined this instrument and do not think that Conn manufactured it-we think it was likely made by Couesnon for the Conn company. In any case, it is a very interesting piece and heretofor unknown bit of Conn history.

This instrument is in terrific condition - the original silver shows litte wear and it has never been seriously damaged. This instrument has jsut been completely overhauled in our shop and is ready to play!
